Hooray for Royal Bank!
I just got called by my business partner. For the fourth time in 4 years, there was a 'mystery deposit' of more than one thousand dollars into our corporate bank account at the Royal Bank. Well, this time, the Royal Bank FINALLY figured out why. Some other company in Ontario has the EXACT SAME bank account number! No shit! Royal Bank is now giving us a new account number, free new cheques, etc, along with a BIG 'SORRY'. How is that possible? Did they never hear about the UNIQUE key in SQL? or are they using an old version of MySQL where 'UNIQUE' is only a suggestion? Now we gotta see if any of OUR money was deposited into THEIR account! --jeffy++ | | Wednesday, September 21st, 2005 | | 6:58 am |

Needles are fun
Well, I've started doing needles every day now. They are expensive, I believe each one is around $50. I use one every day. Usually in the morning. Luckily I don't have to pay for them! I stick myself in my stomach and in my thighs. It's not so bad so far. No big side effects. The problem I see is when I have to go on an airplane trip. The doctors gave me a little note to show to the security guards that says I am allowed a medical exemption to take needles and drugs on the plane with me. But I gotta wonder about that. If I were an airport security guard, how would I verify that the letter was real? and how would I verify that the drugs were what they said they were? and how could you let someone on with hypodermic needles when everyone else is not even allowed nail clippers? I shall find out on monday on my next flight! --jeffy++ | | Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 | | 11:10 pm |

Windows XP Service Pack 2
With a fresh install of windows xp pro, nothing else installed. Download and install SP2, I get:
"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc000001d).Click OK to terminate the application."
"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc000001d).Click OK to terminate the application."
"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc000001d).Click OK to terminate the application."
"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc000001d).Click OK to terminate the application."
"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc000001d).Click OK to terminate the application."
On almost every non-trivial system tool (control panel/Administration/Services for instance). Then when it crashes, it asks if I want to send info about the crash to Microsoft. I click yes and Dr. Watson, the application which is used to gather the crash information, crashes. And I get asked by windows if I want to send THAT information to microsoft! Ad infinitum! yay I love microsoft!

F911 re-posted from my posting in mediavictim's journal:
Yesterday, I noticed a CNN report about the anti-moore site www.moorewatch.com posting bittorrent links to the movie F911. The moorewatch.com site is interesting. I wonder if the people behind it realize how stupid they were by doing that. They in fact ended up helping more people watch F911. It doesn't make sense. They are thinking that they are hurting Moore by reducing movie ticket sales - when in fact Mr. Moore is not concerned about revenue from the movie (but his distributors are) - Mr. Moore wants everyone to SEE the movie, it is pretty clear that the point of the movie is to make Bush lose the next election.
It would be different if the points that they dispute in the movie on their website were more relevant and not just trivial like 'Moore implies thisandthat but in reality it was slightly different', for instance: The implication is that Bath invested the bin Laden family’s money in Bush’s failed energy company, Arbusto. He doesn’t mention that Bath has said that he had invested his own money, not the bin Ladens’, in Bush’s company. It is interesting to compare: The critics with the The responses. I, for one, am very disappointed in the critic's points. Some of their points are in direct conflict with other points. For instance, they say special permission for the flights of the Saudis was not required because the flights were after Sept. 13th: But nonetheless, many viewers will leave the movie theater with the impression that the Saudis, thanks to special treatment from the White House, were permitted to fly away when all other planes were still grounded. This false impression is created by Moore’s failure, when mentioning Sept. 13, to emphasize that the ban on flights had been eased by then. Yet in the next section they say that special permission WAS given by the white house, albiet signed by Richard Clarke, not Bush. Again, Moore is misleading. His film includes a brief shot of a Sept. 4, 2003, New York Times article headlined “White House Approved Departures of Saudis after Sept. 11, Ex-Aide Says.” The camera pans over the article far too quickly for any ordinary viewer to spot and read the words in which Clarke states that he approved the flights.
It all sounds so child-like: "He implies that the white house gave permission, but they didn't have to! And besides, the permission that the white house gave was signed by Clarke, not Bush, so there.." All very subjective and internally inconsistent- just like the typical view of the problems of Moore's films.
I have come to the conclusion that most people are stupid, it doesn't matter what side of the political fence that they are on.

Dusting off more old code...
I was looking through some of my archives and found more of my ancient C++ code. Pretty powerful MIDI processing code. I decided to waste a couple hours while taking breaks from my work here in Vernon (again) and clean up and package this old code. I released it on my website here for any C++ people who care. Remember this is ancient stuff - most of it was written long before bool and namespace and mutable were C++ keywords! If I were to rewrite it now it would end up to be quite different. But, what the hey, may as well give it out. Have fun --jeffy++ | | Friday, April 23rd, 2004 | | 12:12 pm |

Back home
I'm back home from the trip to Vernon for work and Grand Forks for Easter family stuff. Everything went okay. Went down memory lane at my parent's place and did a few other things.

Working...
Things are going well so far on my work trip. Awesome weather and not too stressed yet. Tomorrow we interview the potential new guy - It should prove very interesting. The word for today here is: Schadenfreude I plan on doing just that when I watch the passion of the christ. But do I really need to see it? I watched the South Park version, "The Passion of the Jew". Not much more than that, I suspect! Anyways, back to profiling trolltech's QT library on the Mac. What an inefficient pig! QT/X11 on the same Mac is many times faster! Crazy News: Teen girl charged with posting nude photos on Internet
I really hope this is an april fools joke: http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/103-03292004-273371.html
PITTSBURGH - A 15-year-old girl has been arrested for taking nude photographs of her self and posting them on the Internet, police said.
The girl, whose identity was withheld, was accused of sending out photographs of herself in various states of undress and performing a variety of sexual acts. She sent them to people she met in chat rooms on the Internet, police said.

She has been charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography.

Dichotomy and Excess
For the rest of the month of March, I have two apartments. My 'Downtown' apartment, and my 'Country' apartment. Even though they are only a $11.00 cab ride apart from each other, they may as well be in different worlds. My 'Downtown' apartment is in the West End near Davie St., and my 'Country' apartment is just off of Commercial. I'm moving from Downtown to the Country. Had to rent both places because of the hurried move, and my desire to have a bit more relaxing kind of move. The new place is nice - 2 bedrooms and a patio. I really needed the space and the closeness to my business partner who is in the same building. On top of it, now I have THREE phone numbers. Telus really screwed up on the moving of my phone to the new place. The previous tenant here was using sprint, so telus told me that the transfer couldn't be done until monday the 8th. By wednesday I still didn't have dial tone in either apartment, and anyone who tried calling me got the nice 'This number is not in service' message. I gave them one chance to fix it on tuesday which didn't work out, so I had them reverse the move. Signed up for City-Fido which is cheaper than my land line including long distance. Went back to my 'Downtown' Apartment and forwarded my land-line to my City-Fido for now until Fido takes my land line phone number and applies it to my new cell. So for now, I have my normal land line phone number, my new Fido phone number, and my normal Rogers cell phone. Soon I will be completely telus free! That is not to imply that any other company is better of course - they all suck in their own special ways. Met with Logik yesterday to give some support, and then met up with grendal666 to discus "What makes a great man" and "why aren't we great?" with no solution in sight. I've known for some time that I have a clear 10 year cycle in my life. Patterns reoccurring. Exactly 10 years ago I moved to my tiny hometown from Vancouver when I got married and I hated it completely. Turns out where I am living now is one block away from where my ex-wife lived right when I met her. What does it mean? Well to me it means that I'm going to keep my eyes wide open to make sure I do not repeat the same mistakes I did 10 years ago. Although... In our self-analysis yesterday grendal666 and I felt that maybe we over-analyze everything, and here I am doing it again. | | Wednesday, February 25th, 2004 | | 3:51 pm |

Pisces Drinking style: If you're a Pisces, you've probably already heard that you share a sign -- and an addictive personality -- with Liz Taylor, Liza Minelli and Kurt Cobain. Not only do Pisces like to lose themselves in the dreamy, out-there feeling that only hooch can give, but they build up a mighty tolerance fast. Who needs an expensive date like that? On the other hand, theyre fabulously enchanting partners, whether in conversation or in crime. With the right Pisces, you can start out sharing a pitcher of margaritas and wind up in bed together for days. The phrase "addictive personality" can be read two ways, you know. The Word For Today Is.... DIPLOPIA
Woke up three days ago all cross-eyed. Not really cross-eyed as cross-eyed is horizontal. My double-vision is vertical. After 10 minutes of concentration the double images converge, but keeping the images of the real world converged is kind of like trying to stare at those 3-d stereograms. Close my eyes, even with a blink, and I lose the convergence. Things converge easier if I am looking upwards. Things de-converge when I look at the floor without turning my head down. Doctor recommended taking an IV of 1 gram of prednisone a day for 3 days. I researched it all and I came to the conclusion that NO FUCKING WAY am I going to take that kind of dosage of prednisone ever again. My liver was trashed by the massive prednisone dosage that I took 2 years ago, and that was the worst experience I've ever been through. No more drinking and no more smoking for me anymore. Big difference from before when a friend of mine and I could polish off 60 ounces of gin and 4 packs of cigarettes during 12 hours. I've been off smokes since september, off nicotine since Jan 1st, off heavy drinking since December. I tried to turn all healthy again and what happens? Further neurological difficulties. Maybe it is BECAUSE I'm living healthier? It could be. All the Prednisone is there for is to depress the immune system. Hopefully my eyesight gets better in a week or two and I won't be tripping down the double stairs anymore. Next step: To the neurologist to see if there are any treatments that I qualify for now that things have progressed. --jeffy++ |
